High-rise living is becoming an increasingly popular urban model in Dutch cities, and this Amsterdam-inspired residential building translates that shift into a precise, location-specific landmark. Conceived as an elegant tower with a sculptural presence, the design responds to the dynamics of its surroundings rather than imposing a generic silhouette. A subtle “torque” around the central vertical axis animates the form: the triangular base gradually rises and rotates, then resolves into a smooth curved line that defines the tower’s skyline profile. This controlled movement creates changing orientations, views and daylight conditions, giving the building a sense of motion and specificity—an architectural figure rooted in place, yet unmistakably contemporary. At ground level, a publicly accessible plinth activates the street and strengthens the public realm.
Entrances and functions address both the street and the inner courtyard, creating a double-sided interface that supports small-scale shops, social interaction and generous interior planting. This green, porous base nods to the garden-city principles of the neighbouring residential district while adding urban intensity. Recognising that housing needs evolve with increasingly diverse lifestyles, the building is designed for long-term flexibility through a hybrid construction: a concrete core combined with an intelligent use of steel and timber to accommodate a wide range of apartment types now and in the future. Stepped volumes introduce collective roof terraces and a shared landscape in the sky, connecting the skyline to everyday life. Site-specific materiality—an innovative interpretation of traditional brick—gives the tower its own identity while maintaining continuity with its context.
